Still owns the best winning percentage (.691) of any Bulldog hockey coach ... directed UMD to a 56-25-5 overall record and four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles in his four years of head coaching (1955-59) ... was a perfect 41-0 in MIAC play during his UMD tenure and was behind the bench for the Bulldogs' first win ever over an NCAA Division I opponent (3-2 vs. Michigan Tech on Dec. 13, 1957) ... served as the head coach for the silver-medal winning U.S. entry at the 1952 Winter Olympic Games ... coached the U.S. at the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1961 and 1962 (when the U.S. captured the bronze medal) ... is a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame (Class of 1990) ... played a large role in getting the NCAA rules committee to expand body checking from half to full ice ... was born and raised in Eveleth, Minn.
