One of the so-called pioneers of Bulldog athletics along with the likes of Lou Barle, Lloyd Peterson and John Vucinovich ... accorded with All-Northern Intercollegiate Conference basketball acclaim all four years with the Bulldogs, a feat which has yet to be duplicated ... captained the Bulldogs to fourth straight NIC basketball title in 1937 ... Bulldogs were 71-9 during his four-year collegiate basketball career ... All-NIC in football twice (1934, 1936) ... led Bulldogs in passing, rushing, and scoring two different seasons (1933 and 1935) ... quarterbacked Bulldogs to 1934 NIC football championship ... nicknamed "Spike" ... went on to acquire positions as the head football and boy's basketball coach at Shakopee High School following his graduation from UMD (Duluth State Teacher's College) in 1937 ... experienced a short baseball stint with the Superior Blues of the now-defunct Northern League and the Des Moines Demons ... managed the Fairmont Martins semi-professional baseball team from 1950 to 1953 ... worked as a high school basketball referee and baseball umpire for close to 35 years before hanging up the officiating shoes in 1970 ... was a 1990 NIC Hall of Fame enshrinee ...
