Started all four seasons as a Bulldog and teamed with fellow UMD Hall of Fame inductee Bob Monson to form one of the most potent guard tandems in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference during the late 1950s … co-captained the Bulldogs to their initial two MIAC championships and NAIA National Tournament berths (1957-58 and 1958-59) … was an All-MIAC first team selection and UMD’s Most Valuable Player both of those seasons and a Little All-America honor mention pick in 1958-59 ... departed the Bulldog program holding down the No. 4 spot on the school’s all-time scoring list ... received a tryout with the National Basketball Association’s Minneapolis Lakers after his college career was over and returned to UMD to serve as an assistant coach with the 1959-60 Bulldogs … joined the UMD basketball program fresh out of Duluth Denfeld High School.
